Same as the old boss*

Feminism has never been popular. It’s never been mainstream. I think that fact is underappreciated sometimes, given the toxic (and loud) cesspool the Internet has turned out to be.

What I hear now is the same ultra-conservative orthodoxy that was being spouted a hundred years ago. Only now it sounds like “Die in a fire” and “TERF.” There is absolutely nothing radical in this. Nothing. And, in fact, the viciously expressed misogyny is a sign that we’re doing something right — that radical feminism is still alive, still breathing, and still needed.

Fight the good fight, and let go of the idea that the system itself is ever going to approve or even see it clearly. The shape of the poison might change over the decades, but the poison remains exactly the same. Orthodoxy.

Sorry, dudes…

“The narrative of ‘exclusion from femininity’ hinges on the idea that a man being told no and a woman’s right to say no being removed are equally oppressive. But oppression doesn’t work that way. When men are prevented from wearing high heels and lipstick to work, it’s a bummer–when women are prevented from not wearing high heels and lipstick to work, it’s a human rights violation. Discomfort with power is never worse than any level of comfort with powerlessness. Sorry, but a master who wants to be a slave is still a master.” –Gender Detective, “Sorry, Dudes: Exclusion from Femininity is Privilege, Not Oppression.”

“Radical feminists wish to deconstruct gender–that is, we wish to do away with ‘masculinity’ and ‘femininity.’ Radical feminists believe that gender roles constrict us all, female and male.”

Signal boost for warrior women

“We saw an amazing – amazing in the truest sense, e.g., we were gobsmacked … internet meme yesterday.  It said, ‘The most important thing you can do as an ally of mine: Ask me what I want and need, then try your best to give me that.’

“Really let that wash over you, women who center men. …  When was the last time a … man asked you how they could be your ally, as a woman in this world? Not recently? Why do you think that is?”

Tweet this shit, or spin these yarns from Phonaesthetica.

Women: still property

“A village council in India has ordered two young women [ages 15 and 23] to be raped after their brother eloped with a married woman from a higher caste.”

Story here, among other places. Also: fifteen? Fifteen? Girl children have it even harder than adult females.  They’re not just property; they’re prime property.

That old Lego ad with the girl

I know it’s blatant commercialism. Still, this:

It reminds me of that old Lego ad.

Why FETA?

The Prime Directive

As I’ve started to use the term FETA (Female-Excluding Trans Activists) to replace trans genderism (which is perhaps too confusing), I think I should probably explain fully why this term should be used.

The term is intended to mirror the slur term TERF (Trans-Excluding Radical Feminists). Both terms are structured the same and intend to single out certain specific people: radical feminists who “exclude transgender people,” and trans activists who “exclude women.”

What is not clear, in the case of TERF, is where the exclusion is taking place. Where are transgender people being excluded? Not from the public square, since more and more legislation is being passed to accommodate transgender people. Not from the LGBT community, where they are rising to prominent positions. Not from women’s spaces, since transgender people who were socialized women are still allowed to attend.

The term TERF is not just a slur, it’s a piece…

Exiles in their own flesh: A psychotherapist speaks

4thWaveNow

This is a guest post submitted by Lane Anderson (a pseudonym), a practicing psychotherapist who has worked extensively with “trans kids” and their families. She shares with us her clinical insights into her clients, child psychology, and the impact of the transgender phenomenon on our society as a whole.

If there are other mental health providers reading this post, please consider guest posting or responding in the comments section below the article.

I am a licensed psychotherapist. I’m writing this post on my last day at a teen health clinic, where I’ve seen patients and their families for nearly a decade.

In the past year especially, it’s become increasingly clear to me that I cannot uphold the primary value of my profession, to do no harm, without also seriously jeopardizing my standing in the professional community.  It’s a terrible and unfortunate conflict of interest. I’ve lost much sleep over the fact that, for a significant portion of my clients and their parents, I am unable to provide what they profess…
